Battlefield Acupuncture (BFA)
BFA uses small, semipermanent acupuncture needles and 5 set points anatomically located on each ear to reduce pain. BFA was founded by an Air Force field surgeon who developed a non-conventional type of therapy to provide alternates for pain management for soldiers and airman during the Iraq and Afghanistan war. This approach can be used instead of, or along with medications. BFA uses the ear and targets the “meridian system” a form of traditional Chinese acupuncture. Precisely how the therapy works is unclear, but the needles may stimulate the central nervous system and reduce sensation of pain by affecting parts of the brain such as the hypothalamus.

Trigger Point Injections
Treatment that can provide acute pain relief by injecting an anesthetic (Lidocaine or Marcaine) into a painful knotted portion of the muscle. Myofascial release can be used in conjunction with providing trigger point injections to better identify the sore area(s) and to accurately deliver the pain medication. Trigger points can help with neck pain, back pain, and tension headaches.

For optimal results general recommendation is 4-6 treatments depending on the severity of skin condition and concern.
